Grace, Strength, Love

Topic

This term our topic is SOS! This history based topic will see us explore some key events and people from the past, including The Great Fire of London and Grace darling. We will be exploring the events of The Great Fire of London and taking a look at what life was like for people back in 1666, comparing it with our lives today. We will also be learning about the emergency services and comparing how these jobs have changed over time.

PE

PE will be with me (Miss Clark) on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure that the children come into school on these days wearing their school PE kit: shorts or tracksuit bottoms (depending on the weather), trainers, school jumper or fleece.

Homework

Reading - We recommend 20 minutes a day for reading at home. 20 minutes reading every day will help build fluency and reinforce the daily reading at school.

Over the course of the week it is great to read material from a range of sources, including:

  • Colour banded books from school (these can be changed daily)
  • Library books (changed on Mondays)
  • Phonics book bag books (these need returning in line with the dates on the Fred Frog bookmarks)
  • The children's own books at home
  • Please send in the yellow reading records to school each day.

Maths - We recommend 10 minutes a day of number fluency practice (counting, times tables, practicing the four main operations. Top marks is a great website to use that has lots of fun math's games that the children enjoy, to help build fluency.
