Topic

This term our topic is Safari Salama (safe travels). This topic will see us explore the lives of the Maasai tribe in Kenya in spring 1, and then travel over to Australia to explore life there in spring 2. Our topic this term will have a geographical focus, as the children explore many aspects of life and culture around the world, as well as learning key skills such as using compasses and atlases to identify locations on a map. During forest school the class with have the opportunity to create their own Maasai homes and towards the end of the term we are looking forward to exploring life in Australia in our Australian experience day!

PE

PE will be with me (Miss Clark) on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure that the children come into school on these days wearing their school PE kit: shorts or tracksuit bottoms (depending on the weather), trainers, school jumper or fleece.

Homework

Reading - We recommend 20 minutes a day for reading at home. 20 minutes reading every day will help build fluency and reinforce the daily reading at school.

Over the course of the week it is great to read material from a range of sources, including:

  • Colour banded books from school (these can be changed daily)
  • Library books (changed on Mondays)
  • Phonics book bag books (these need returning in line with the dates on the Fred Frog bookmarks)
  • The children's own books at home
  • Please send in the yellow reading records to school each day.

Maths - We recommend 10 minutes a day of number fluency practice (counting, times tables, practicing the four main operations. Top marks is a great website to use that has lots of fun math's games that the children enjoy, to help build fluency.
