Science
Science is usually taught weekly and teachers follow the EDUKent Primary Scheme of Work. It is the main focus of at least one topic per year group.
The National Curriculum for Science aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
- develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
- are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
This is done through several different strands.
Year 1 the children learn about plants, seasonal change, animals, including humans and everyday materials.
Year 2 the children learn about animals including humans, living things and their habitats, use of everyday materials and plants.
Year 3 the children learn about animals including humans, light, rocks, forces and magnets and plants.
